Quantitative Acoustic Emissions
Non Destructive Inspection

Materials and structures that undergo stress, deformation and cracking, emit sound and ultrasound waves called Acoustic Emission Signals.  Special sensors that we mount throughout the entire length of a line can acquire these signals.  The unique QAE NDI analysis of these signals can be used for the identification of flaws, their location, type, danger level and the dynamics of their development.

QAE NDI was introduced as an online monitoring system for High Energy Piping (HEP) in May of 2002.  Since that time, we have permanently installed monitoring systems on and inspected 50 lines including Hot Reheat (HRH), Main Steam(MS) and Cold Reheat(CRH) lines.

QAE NDI has been revolutionizing the way power stations inspect their High Energy Piping:

  • Installation and Inspection on running lines (including lines with asbestos)
  • No Scaffolds or tedious stripping of the line
  • Inspection of 100% of the line, including ID, OD, entire length and circumference and hanger performance under dynamic load
  • Provide useful information for preventive and predictive maintenance
  • Excellent agreement with conventional NDE and metallurgical investigation results
  • Significant savings over traditional NDE methods with better results as shown below:
